Turkey 1 Year, 5 Months ago Karma: 1
Hi everyone!
I was told today that turkey is bad for dogs; that it can cause pancreatic cancer. Is this true?
I deboned my turkey and saved some bits for Chance (my dog), and do not want to give it to him if it is harmful.

Please let me know. Thank you in advance.

I found out yesterday when I took Chance to see Dr. Jasek, that turkey is Not bad for your dogs! It is actually good for them. Just do not give them bones.

Yes, It is amazing to me what people hear and do not follow up on with doing more research on.
My suggestion would be, if you hear something about the health of your pet, make sure you follow up with a professional who knows about this sort of thing.

I think perhaps the information you heard got changed. It may be possible for dogs to get pancreatitis, not pancreatic cancer, from a high fat meal. Therefore, some people warn against giving table scraps, especially at the holidays, to dogs. If you Google "pancreatitis dogs fat", you can learn more. We are careful not to give our dog too much cooked fat (from table scraps) but don't worry so much about the raw fat in her raw diet, as I figure dogs are designed to digest raw fat.
